1.6 billion people are homeless.
In most countries, housing costs grow faster than incomes. Over the past two decades, housing has grown more costly than ever. And, the barriers to first time buyers remain exorbitantly high.
Rising interest rates and surging construction materials costs make housing more financially onerous for low-income buyers. And, for many people around the world, it remains difficult to prove the land they live on is in fact theirs.
Although hard to track, the home insecurity increases each year, with few countries being an exception to that. The United Nations has documented that there are around 1.6 billion people residing in poor housing worldwide, with around 15 million being forcibly evicted each year.
How should Christians respond to the multifaceted housing crisis?
“Is this not the fast that I choose…to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?” Isaiah 58:6-7
